Ladakh Air Support
Why Navy jets in Ladakh?
Indian Air Force(IAF) has posted Navy Mig-29s in Ladakh for air support.
Mig-29 is among the most important jets in the IAF. A naval variant of this fighter, Mig-29K, is used in the Indian Navy. Recently these naval aircrafts have been moved to Ladakh due to the clashes with the Chinese.
Along with the Su-30MKI and Apache attack helis, the Mig-29k would let the Chinese bite the dust.
But why Navy jets?
We have the answer.
1)It will make the Navy pilots more experienced in combat operations.
2)The Navy jets are designed in a way that they can take off from short runways provided by the Aircraft carriers, hence, they can easily take off from the short mountainous runways in Ladakh.
3)It will increase the coordination between all three sections of the Indian Armed Forces which will be necessary in case of an all out war.
Why is Su-30MKI is not used in the Navy?
The reason is very simple. Su-30MKI is a heavy combat aircraft. Thus, it needs to acquire a higher speed to take off and hence, needs a longer runway, which is not provided by the aircraft carriers of the Navy.
